Officially launched in March of 2017 and based out of Toronto, ON, Catch The Blitz is a NFL media company built with a vision of revolutionizing the way football is consumed and enjoyed. With social media changing the way sports are presented, Catch The Blitz keeps fans connected to the game they love, ensuring they are always informed and engaged when it comes to all things football.
The company was founded by Christian Catenacci and originally began as an Instagram platform which updated fans on the latest NFL news happening around the league. In 2018, Catenacci collaborated with childhood friend Thomas Pocrnic and the two worked on branching beyond the news world, aiming to create original content that NFL fans were not previously exposed to.
It began when Catenacci was a freshman at Toronto Metropolitan University in 2017. While studying at Ted Rodgers School of Management, he looked to turn his passion for football into something more. So, he created a podcast which started as just a hobby. Shortly after, he made a website and Instagram. As Catenacci kept producing content, each post became more personal to him, adding his own opinions and insight on the National Football League. Around this same time, Pocrnic had begun his own podcast, and caught Catenacci’s eye with the graphics he would create to go along with it.
As family friends, Pocrnic grew up playing hockey with Catenacci’s brother. Pocrnic is also attending Toronto Metropolitan University and is heading into his senior year. Joining Catch The Blitz during September of 2018, it was a perfect union with his graphic skills and Catenacci covering media and news. The two were able to combine their own individual passion projects into one to build something that’s truly become bigger than just football.
Born and raised in Toronto, ON, the two grew up playing sports in their community. Nothing else in the world brings people together with the same energy. No matter where one is from, sports are an outlet for people to come together.
As the brand started to gain momentum, this dynamic-duo began to develop the idea with daily posts to stay consistent for their followers in a league where headlines break almost everyday. Today, they have evolved into not just an Instagram account, but a media resource across all social platforms. Their website debuted in July of 2020, shortly before surpassing 100,000 followers, and a podcast was launched in October of 2021.
Catch The Blitz has amassed over 140,000 loyal followers across all social media platforms. As the brand continues to grow, so does the motivation of the founders, as they hope that everyone can feel the love for football that they do.
During November of 2019, Catch The Blitz teamed up with the Ronald McDonald house for a full-day charity football tournament. The tournament documented 18 total teams and over 250 people showed up for the event. Catch The Blitz helped raise over $15,000 and had New York Giants linebacker Blake Martinez (#54) donate game-used gloves to raffle off for the Ronald McDonald House Canada Foundation.
Catenacci and Pocrnic have also used their platform within the football community to sponsor and launch a local football league called Vaughan Touch Football League in July of 2021. Starting just over a year ago in Vaughan, ON, the league has grown to 28 teams in just its 3rd season. For Pocrnic, bringing people together to play football has been surreal.
“It’s just local in the city we live in,” Pocrnic said. “It’s been crazy cool to bring something we’re both so passionate about in football, into our area and share that passion with our community.”
While the league isn’t directly affiliated with Catch The Blitz, they have used their platform, bringing their social media marketing skills to promote the league.
Catch The Blitz provides something for everyone. Their content gives football fans quality content that is both informative, yet engaging! Content is thoughtfully created to appeal to the die-hard fans, while also serving as a learning tool to new football fans in learning the in’s and outs of the game and the NFL world.
